Nishank told the Home Minister that a high-level committee had been constituted on this matter and he had also started discussions with all concerned parties. The JNU administration has increased hostel fees and other charges, which the students there are strongly opposed to. The high-level committee met the dean and members of the student unions on Tuesday and on 22 November she will visit the JNU campus to interview the students. After this she will submit the final report. The JNU Vice Chancellor is yet to meet the committee. However, the HRD ministry is pushing them to do this, so that the issue can be resolved.

A senior ministry official said, "The high-powered committee of the HRD ministry held a cordial meeting with JNU students at Shastri Bhavan on Wednesday and got to know the views of the students." They agreed to meet the students again on Friday at the JNU campus to find a solution to the current issue. "The committee also appealed to the students to immediately restore normalcy in the campus, to which the students responded positively," the official said. While the meeting was going on, JNU's visually impaired students staged a protest outside the Delhi Police's old headquarters to protest against the police's lathicharge on the protesters against the hostel fee hike. These JNU students met Delhi Public Relations Officer and Deputy Commissioner of Police (Central) Mandeep Singh Randhawa and apprised them of the incidents of lathicharge and assault during Monday's protest.

The HRD ministry on Monday constituted a three-member committee to suggest ways to restore normalcy in JNU. The committee consists of former University Grants Commission (UGC) Chairman VS Chauhan, AICTE President Anil Sahasrabuddhe and UGC Secretary Rajneesh Jain. Sahasrabuddhe said that we had a cordial meeting. We will have more meetings and if necessary, will also visit JNU. Once we hear all sides we will be able to finalize our recommendations. although, There are issues that need to be resolved as soon as possible so that normalcy is restored and we are striving for it. A total of 34 JNU student councilors and four student union officials met with the committee members. Later in the day the committee members held meetings with the hostels presidents of the university. The Jawaharlal Nehru University Students' Union (JNUSU) demanded a complete withdrawal of the hostel fee hike and said that the fee hike should be suspended until the High Powered Committee submits the report.

JNU Students 'Union secretary Satish Chandra Yadav said, "We have demanded that the inter-hall administration committee meeting, which took place on October 28 without the students' union, be repeated and the hostel manual should be passed only after taking suggestions from us." He said, 'We also raised the point that the Vice Chancellor is not meeting us, due to which the situation has reached this level.' JNUSU issued a statement saying, 'Our demand is a new manual through acceptable negotiation process. There is no talk of affirmative action in the existing manual and it does not guarantee reservation for SC, ST and differently-abled students on hostel seats, which we cannot accept.
